More writing in 2026

It's the first week of January, the usual time to reflect and make plans. I’ve decided to spend 2026 writing more, here, on this blog. I need the discipline of writing to help me think clearly, and as I saw when doing a review of my 2025 writing, I have not been doing it enough.

Writing as a way to think better

I had the opportunity to write my O'Reilly book on Cloud Run a few years ago. It wasn't easy for me. When I was writing for 18 months, I scrapped everything I had written and started from scratch. It took me two years to complete the project. It was challenging, and absolutely worth it.

I learned that writing forces me to think clearly and helps me discover new ideas. This process can be confrontational at times. In my head, half-formed ideas deceptively make sense to me. I rely on intuition, and skip steps. But once I start to write, the gaps show up. Reading, reviewing, and improving my own writing is a good way for me to learn and structure my thinking. It helps me figure out what I want to communicate.

Publishing here forces me to be more critical about what I create, because I know you'll be reading it!

Building an archive

Another thing I realized is that I want my writing to be here, in an archive that is accessible, and one that lasts. Here, people can randomly find my content through a search engine or AI companion, years after I have written it.

On this weblog, I can control how to present my writing to you. Without distractions and notifications to make your brain tired (I'm liking social media and the engagement trap less and less lately).

What to expect

If you like my writing, maybe you'll bookmark my site or subscribe to the RSS feed. And if you don't, I still like how writing my thoughts down helps me think more clearly.

See you in 2026!
